Phase 2 of the project see a second boatlift lower the canal level further as it enters a tunnel under Percival lane so as not to impede traffic flow. On leaving the tunnel, boats will move down a short section of canal before entering a pair of heritage ‘Showcase’ lock chambers. A heritage standard restoration of these lock chambers is particularly important as they are locks 5 and 6 of the original ten lock flight.
This phase of the project also see the construction of a large marina adjacent to the showcase locks. An attractive and quality development, this will prove beneficial to the area in addition to providing Unlock Runcorn with a long term sustainable income stream which will help maintain The Link and support the charity’s community work.
